Hello everyone, I have a 1949 King George coin with (not sure) extra cud maybe? Would love to know what some of you might think this stuff is around King George. One more question if I may ask. I noticed every once in awhile I get messages that I have rec'd a trophy what exactly does this mean? Just wondering. Thank you
If water doesn't work, try surgical spirit with a drop of detergent in it. Best thing I have found for glue and tape residue. (We call it Surgical Spirit - methanol I think - I have forgotten what it is called in the US - rubbing alcohol or something?)
Surgical spirit is what we refer to as isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol. In the US, you can find it in 50%, 70% and 91%
It means you reached some milestone, like your 100th post, or something. It's just juvenile social media stuff. There's really no trophy awaiting you with your name inscribed on it. I know, because I asked, I wanted mine for my bookshelf.
You luck dog! They just like you more that me. I always felt there was a strong bias against thoroughbreds in these forums.
I stole yours. I'm having a millennial write the ransom note for me, and I've been sending it back for nearly two years to be redone because of typos.
Kind of like the old days of comics. If you got your letter to the editor printed in a comic they would send you a "No Prize". (Marvel). An empty envelope with, of course, no prize inside. Just the words "Congratulations, your no prize is enclosed". It was a joke Stan Lee thought up.
Looks like glue. Cuds are die breaks near the rim that allow the metal to fill in, so it looks like a blob of metal. Cud is just for those at the edge. Inside the coin they are die chips.
Since your coin is Cypriot, a place with a history of significant strife, very little is "off the table" regarding random forms of damage.
Coins like this are often mounted in sets as souvenirs for travellers. The quality of the coin, and the mounting method, aren't usually terribly important to the tourist or the vendor. If it is glue (which it looks like it may be), then try pure acetone. Glue is usually organic based, and acetone will dissolve the glue.
