E-bay is selling a roll of these for $4.99. I just bought a box at the bank to do coin roll hunting for wheaties and got a whole box of brand new 2017p shield pennies. People are paying $5.00 for a roll of these that you can get for $.50 at a bank!!! Are people nuts!!!
Yes. Since I started CRH'ing in 2012, I received countless boxes of whatever the current year was. The only time I saw them selling really well was during the start of the year when they were still relatively scarce. FWIW I always open all my rolls and dump them loose into the coin machine.
It is particularly difficult to get Philadelphia mint coins here on the west coast. So while you can go to the bank and just get rolls of the P mint cents, that is not the case out here in the western U.S. I would not personally pay a premium for them, but just wanted to point out access is not that easy.
I have bought many boxes of cents in the year 2017, hoping for a full box of 2017 P’s and just received circulated. I don’t know where I’m the heck they’re keeping them hidden but from the montage numbers you would think that’s all I would be getting.
If one isn't able to get rolls at a local bank and one wants a roll and has $5 they are willing to trade for the roll? Makes sense to me.
I live in California so it’s impossible for me to get my hands on any Philadelphia mint coins. I have tried to get a contact and make trades but no commitment has been made so I am one of those that has had to pay premium for Philadelphia mint coins
Back in my day they did and we always had trouble getting them. I remember saving every "S" cent I found and once paying $7.50 for a roll of 1974 S cents and that was in 1974
I started collecting as a kid in the early 70's and lived in the east. Anything with an S mm was like the Holy Grail. I used to wish I lived in CA so I could get a lot of S coins in change instead of the boring Philly ones
Yes, people are. A lot of sellers are using the "First time a P mm has appeared on a penny, we may never see it again" to sell them. Buyer beware.
That's why my avatar is a 1968-S. It was the last Lincoln Memorial cent to complete the series. I remember the rush I felt as a kid when I finally found it. All in all, I found only a handful of the San Francisco minted Lincoln Memorial cent business strikes. As far as the 2017-P, earlier in the year I bought 25 Loomis rolls on eBay for $24.50 + free shipping. That $ 0.98 per roll. That satisfied my urge. Besides, I have not found a better deal than this. What is crazy is that an eBay seller is asking $75 for a roll of "AU" 2009 P Jefferson Nickels or $130 for a roll of "BU" 2009 P Jefferson Nickels. The strange thing is that this seller is using the same listing photo for both the "AU" and "BU" rolls. From my pocket change, I can pull out a roll of "AU" 2009 P Jefferson Nickels for $2.
Yes and no, yes $5 is probably too much to pay, and no people will pay a premium to acquire coins they aren't able to find. You got a box at the bank, good for you you got lucky. Many people buy box after box after box at the bank and they AREN'T able to get them. I know I couldn't, they just aren't here. I've seen two, count them, both of them, two 2017 cents so far. Someone just sold a box of 2018-D cents on eBay for $515.
