I hate selling my coins. Don't ask me why, but perhaps it's because they are my "precious". However, on the other hand, I really like trading coins particularly with collectors I know feel about their coins as I do. I've traded with many members here on CT, and have never felt like the trade was in any way a deficit. So, recently I was asked by one of our esteemed members if I would like to trade one of my coins for two of his. My coin seemed to have somewhat better detail, but it was nothing special to me. The two coins I got in trade were perhaps more worn, but, again to me, they had more interesting reverses. The first coin is a Vespasian VESPASIAN AR Denarius OBVERSE: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG, laureate head right REVERSE: COS ITER FORT RED, Fortuna standing left, resting hand on galley prow and holding cornucopia Struck at Rome, 70 AD 2.62g, 18mm RIC 19; RSC 84 ex David Atherton The second is a Titus TITUS AR Denarius OBVERSE: T CAES IMP VESP CENS, laureate head right, "o" beneath neck REVERSE: FIDES PVBL, hands clasped over caduceus, two poppies and two corn-ears Struck at Uncertain Asian Mint or Ephesus, 76AD 2.9g, 19mm RIC V 1485 (Vesp), RPC 1459 Ex David Atherton; ex Harry Sneh Collection So, in the end, I think I did well in this trade, and I hope my trading partner feels the same. There are obviously some coins I will not trade, but I'm open to discuss trades with anyone here on CT
You are like me sir. I feel the exact same way. I loath the idea of trading a precious coin for something as mundane as money, but am somewhat am open to trades, (especially if I happen to own 10 or 15 of the same coin ).
Looks like you ended up with a nice couple of coins there Bing. I totally agree with you about trades. It's a great way to add to the collection and helping someone else with thiers.
The O mint Titus is a tough coin to get and it has a great provenance! Now I'm contemplating what I could trade for your Nero/Claudius drachm!
But you also have that Caligula denarius.... I'm looking to focus on my Flavian's, 1st century and Southern Italians so just about everything else is up for discussion.
Me, too, but most of the coins I would be willing to trade would not be wanted by most of the people who have what I would want. I have posted a page with my favorite coins including some back ups numbering 150 to 200 coins altogether. If you want to trade for something on that page, you will have to come up with something that would make me drool with anticipation. Currently I am sorting through my coins finding things to send to John Anthony for his auctions here on CT. If you want something from that group, I could be very reasonable. For the most part, people who will want my 'expendables' will be new collectors and not Bing/Medoraman 'vintage' folks. It would be nice if we each had a place to post photos of unwanted coins available for adoption
Well, if anyone is open to trades, PM me. I have duplicate emperors outside my area of focus that in reality I only need one coin for, and with so many holes still remaining in my collection I'm open to trading duplicates for now in order to fill some of the gaps. Some real beauties too (above average samples). Namely, Caracalla, Septimius Severus, Trajan, and Julia Domna. Would be willing to trade for Nerva, Macrinus, Nero, any Roman Republic coins, and coins of the Britanic Empire, or Marius of the Gallic Empire, or even a neat Greek coin.
You know which ones I want. And I know you'll never trade them or sell them. I'm glad they're at least in the coinFamily
What about a thread where we could post one coin for trade and others could post their coin they would be willing trade for it? This would work for high-end and bottom feeder collectors like me.
I have been wanting to trade for sometime. I'll start a tread and see what happens. Thanks for the idea @Bing!
Sadly there was a trade posted in May of 2016 that I could have filled but I never thought it worth checking this resource. That was the last ancient post, I believe.
I think I found the listing. It has not been edited to say the offer is done, so perhaps they might still have it.
