Just saw this listing pop up: 1909-S VDB 1C-Small Lincoln Wheat Cent-NGC VF 35/// Never mind that they're asking 64+ money for a VF35 coin, I stumbled over this: Now, according to my understanding, sellers are required to include photos that plainly show the front and back of any TPG graded coin's slab, including the serial number. Am I behind the times, or is this just one more red flag for a seller that the bulls are probably already lining up to charge? (Or perhaps the bulls are lining up to resupply their copy...) Interestingly, I don't see the "photo must show front and back of slab" commandment now in eBay's selling policy document. I also do see a new addition since the last time I checked it, requiring that photos of slabs from non-approved companies do blur out the grade on the slab.
Why even waste a second of your time even thinking about it? The seller is obviously a liar, a cheat, or an incompetent. Any of the three says "Write him off, IMMEDIATELY!" in my world. It starts bad just being on eBay alone, and gets nothing but worse from there. Look at his other items for sale list. He's clearly a crook.
What is it? What makes people waste a nanosecond on listings like this? Do you lose the ability to think when the right coin picture is in front of you? WHY DO YOU EXPECT TO SEE ETHICS AMONG EBAY SELLERS?!?!? When you find it, cherish it; it's becoming increasingly rare.
Um, look, I'm not interested in the coin. I'm not interested in the seller. He's clearly a bozo. I'm asking if he's just another bozo, or whether there's been a change in eBay policy that I ought to attend to. The last time I reviewed the policy in detail, I'm quite sure it specifically mentioned a requirement to have clear photos showing both sides of the slab whenever selling a coin from an approved TPG. I don't see that requirement any more. I wonder if it's changed, and I wonder what else might have changed. And while I value your opinion on many (most?) things, Kurt, why are you here in a thread about a venue you hold in such contempt?
From what I understand for ebay: *If it's a top 4 tpg (PCGS, NGC, ANACS, ICG) one needs to show the photo of the actual coin and holder in order to include a grade in the title *If it's not a top 4 holder, the grade can't be mentioned (and apparently you can't show a photo of the grade either) Note: some people don't follow the rules...I see pictures where the grade and/or cert number is blurred out...some do this when multiples are available (so it's just a generic photo) or some blur out the cert number so that no one puts that coin in their registry without buying the coin.
Hopefully they did get rid of that part or at least all TruViews as an alternative. No policy change, just some nonsense written in a listing
Just demonstrating one of the many reasons WHY I hold it in such contempt. They have obviously become so huge, so unmanageable, so unwieldy, so utterly overrun by sellers blatantly flouting the site's rules, that they are now unable to police their own policies. That is not an endorsement, guys. Wake up and smell the mocha-java. eBay is a stinking joke. I have a very small list of eBay sellers I deal with (one advertises here, and I don't use even them very much), but really, if I were forced to deal with eBay as anything but a minor accoutrement to my collecting activities, I'd give up the hobby in a heartbeat.
I feel this cartoon I found by searching google images best portrays what I am feeling: https://s3.amazonaws.com/lowres.car...lic_speaking-soap_box-soapbox-tda0117_low.jpg
There are legitimate instances/reasons where a generic one or none would be legitimately used, I can't think of any that apply here though
this is for KURT-or anyone knowledgeable im newbie silver eagle collector i have a question for u-exp:1996pf70dcam for$250 or same coin pf69 for $100--or just move on to a cheaper series
The lenses in my eyes also have serial numbers. I have cards that show which is which. No, I can’t just shift my vision and see them.
What I know for sure is $100 is too high for a PF69UC, which is a typical grade and nothing special. I don’t know whether $250 is too high for a 70, because they’re not really my thing. Somebody will know better than I.
