My friend asked me to post a picture of a quarter that he found in a roll to see if anyone knows what caused this. The camera on his phone does not take good pictures. Any help would be great.

Coffee? More seriously, just looks like a stain.

Something could of affected the Clad layer just in that spot. Hard to tell if it's pre mint or post mint. I can't decide IMHO

Possibly acid came into contact with this? Part of the bust has been eaten away. Just a guess.

Does that mean you're looking at it with disdain?

How could you look at anything in regards to Coffee as "disdain" LOL? It is a vital part of the blue collar life!

I think the detail looks too good to be acid damaged, and the color looks too much like that of a copper core to discount this as a legit mint error. It may be that the copper nickel clad layer had a tear, lamination, or void in it, and the core extruded through during the strike. This coin needs to be examined in person, or submitted for third party attribution. Unfortunately, it is expensive to submit errors to PCGS and even NGC . . . I'd suggest ANACS.

Glad I'm white color. I do fine imported teas, about $50 a pound.
