Does this look like an overdate to anyone? The last digit of the date "7" looks like it was stamped over another number. Am I right?
I see what you're talking about - just beneath the serif of the "7" and between the lower part of the 7 and the 3. Overdates occur when the mint reuses old, previously dated dies. Since this was the first year of the Seated Liberty design, I don't know how there could be pre-dated dies. But all sorts of things occur on the numerals in the date - repunches etc. - so maybe there's something there. Have you checked a specialist book on half dimes ? How about the Cherrypicker's Guide ? Personally, it looks more like a post-minting gouge, not a mint variety. But it's hard to say for sure from the photo. Good luck !
