Thanks for the read. Sounds like they will be pricing this stuff way out of my league.

I am hopeing there will be lots of perfect MS 1857-S Double Eagles, so that prices will come down to around $3000 for a MS-65 example.

Problem is that there is still more down there. So if coins you want come down in price based on market for coins above water and you buy now, it's possible the price/value could drop a lot more in the future. Dilemma for those who collect those series.

Most valuable artifacts on a per unit weight basis that went down with the ship weren't made of gold though. There were more than 100 original drawings and paintings by Audubon that went down too. Possible they're in good shape. Some trunks brought up from the wreck had paper documents in good shape inside.

Good to see that the deputes over who had rights to salvage it is over after what Tommy Thompson did. I knew they were going to salvage some more but I did not know they salvaged it already...

A lot of us will now be able to afford these 1857-S Double Eagles in MS-65, once this "new" hoard appears on the market. Collectors that paid "high" prices for the first SS Central America hoard coins will be very unhappy:(
There of course is even a bigger San Francisco Mint hoard out there/ the 25000 1900-S Double Eagle, that went MIA in 1901. If these are ever found, imagine 25K GEM quality $20 gold pieces/ all were freshly struck/ perfect quality. Hopefully, they will turn up one day. There is also the RMS Repuplic wreck off Mass. its rumored to have a billion dollars of Double Eagles bound for Russia in 1909 aboard. Estimated to have had a cargo of 150,000 Double Eagles in ship's vault.

Thats what happens when you only partially salvage a ship and then buy those coins, its only a matter of time before they go back and salvage even more coins and your rare one of a kind coin is now the second best out of three because they found 2 more. That's how these salvage companies get you.

These new slabs are amazing! The slab contains 1 pinch of gold recovered from the shipwreck and are hand signed by Bob Evans, Chief Scientist.

Me too! Hopefully prices will come way down now that the market will be flooded with MS 1857-S Double Eagles. Feel sorry for all those that paid inflated prices for them in past auction cycles.

Nows the time to buy. They’ll be as cheap as type 2 anyway. But once the market absorbs them all they’ll go back up. Is like the 08 no motto saints in high grade. They were everywhere 5 years ago. Now not so much and bringing more money all things considered

Waiting for the silver coins to go for sale, they have not shown what was recovered.
