Good afternoon! My brother handed me this coin a few weeks ago because I told him about my new hobby. I can definitely see doubling, but I’m still learning how to differentiate between machine doubling, doubled due, etc. I can see doubling on the date, the S in trust, few other places. I’m also not sure if this is a small date or a large date. I would appreciate any input anyone may have. Thank you
Kinda hard to tell from pics but it looks like flat and shelf like from what I can see. so that would be MD. But let someone with more knowledge chime in.
Hi Elycemarie, From the pictures the S caught my eye.Check it and see if that is a double S mint mark.Going off the examples here's my opinion. The numbers in the date look to me like a small date, the S mint mark looks too thin to be a large date.Compare the numbers and the mint mark see what you think. Hi McCann! That you for responding Yes the S is definitely doubled. I’ve attached another photo with a close up. I got a new attachment for the camera on my phone. Please let me know what you think. Thank you again
Hi. I found a 1970 S and started a post.It turn out to be a large date.I received some great feed back on how to tell a large date from a small date.Check it out.McCann 1970 S coin roll hunting page. Have a nice day
Hi Elycemarie, I'm no expert but from what I can see Its on the top of the S and on the top of each number in 1970.Some may call this die deteiration doubling. It's just a guess, still learning abut all the different types.Try to see if the doubling runs down the entire number or letter. It will look like one is laying on the other. Take the picture from directly above this way it will zoom straight down and not from an angle. Also cropping the picture helps. Hope this will help you. McCann
