I find when I self-slab or use an airtight when some dust is on a proof coin, I just use a can of this stuff to blow it away from the coin and holder: , It's that keyboard cleaner in a pressurized can of Difluoroethane. So far it hasn't affected the surfaces of my coins in AIRTIGHT containers, but the practice is still the "experimental phase". It should work with most modern proofs, as it is only reactive with alkali and alkaline earth metals. The first two columns of the periodic table. So I mainly use it for Copper-Nickel clad Commemorative proofs. and a few pr-65's like Franklin proofs. Here is one I did a year ago. The dust on this one is on the outside of the plastic Anyone else remove dust particles in another way?❔❔❔
Perhaps that was the video, think it was a a YouTube thing. Right now I'm on an ICG kick. I think they are the best at a fair grades. But PCGS is usually my number 1.
Is amazing how much dust can be inside an airtite right from the factory. I do the same thing! I blow out both halves of the airtite and the coin. Then I rinse the coin with acetone and put it into the airtite. I also blow out the 2x2's - those are super dusty!
Proofs bought in the raw are always the toughest to handle. I don't like wearing gloves, So before I work with proofs out of a 2X2, I thoroughly wash my hands with Technu, a poison ivy cure, that removes plant oils and all other oils from your hands. I tried using GOOP, the stuff for grease and motor oil, but it still seems to leave oil on my hands. Before that, I used Dawn on my hands. Nothing works as good as Technu, and it stays on you for a long time. I discovered this while tending to the bees one early May day. I was in the wooded area behind the house and was at a distance from the other hives putting the finishing touches on the metal reflective tops. No fingerprints for the first time on the top of the hive. Didn't really notice this, until I was suited up and moving number 5 into its spot, and then it became evident. This one was not like the others... and well lots of thoughts go through one's mind while managing bee hives and I thought it must've been the technu, and I had to try it out on in the evening with some bulk proof Kennedy's. Sure enough, I had them all inside the Dansco pages in about 5 minutes, even pushing them down barehanded, something I didn't care much about at the time cause they were all 71-79 proofs {minus the silver 76's). Not a fingerprint on any of them to this day. Pretty soon I got brave enough to try it with 69S Proof Kennedy's. This time I applied the stuff again and decided to see if it was going to leave any trace on the 1st coin. I aggressively pushed my finger several times onto to its mostly mirror-like surfaces, Put some coffee filters on top of the tin foil I had it sitting out on. The next day I came home and checked that thing with every kind of lighting I had available to see if it left any markings. Not a thing. Still nothing on that one to this very Day. I'll see if I can find it tomorrow after work to show you evidence of its impressive prophylactic effects. One thing with that stuff, a drawback. With the stuff applied and washed off, as I usually apply it....it is extremely difficult to turn the pages of the Cherry Pickers Guide. BTW- If any criminals are seeing this post....Nothin to see here...move along
What OTHER CONTAMINATES have the TPG firms locked in with your coins Huh? Was the guy eating a ham on rye also when he sealed your 1880 O MS66 coin in with a caraway seed? That wouldn’t destroy the coin would it. One thing is for sure though if you sent your $50,000 plus coin into a TPG firm it probably will be handled with BARE UNPROTECTED HANDS by the TPG employees so if the handling doesn’t get your coin hopefully the included contaminates will. Sounds kind of far fetched until you see pictures like the ones on this thread. if the Employee can’t take 10 more seconds to do a Q/C on the slab then does he wash his hands regularly? Washing ones hands takes a good 2 minutes much longer than a 10 second quality check, does he do it? I’m not real confident that the people that can’t check for a hair will wash their hands real regularly. Sounds silly until you look at the contaminated slabs. Then we’re back to the unprotected hands. Hey my wiener is clean why do I have to wash my hands!
There's no need to get paranoid about it. It's a very very minuscule percentage of coins that come back with anything in the slab. Besides your $50k+ coin will have already been handled by bare hands in it's past long before the TPGs ever get a look at it
So because the coin made it almost 140 years without being boogered by some FOOL it’s okay to now handle it without much care or consideration? By looking at the members images the level of CARE the people that sonically sealed those slabs gave was VERY LOW. I know you don’t think that. But if those coins were people that had evasive surgery they would be septic and dead. I know there just coins but I have Lincolns that are more important to me than MOST people. My favorite, TPG grader checking to see if it really is Gold! Lol.
Just like the last thread about this you’re blowjng everything completely out of proportion and drawin false conclusions.
No it just my opinion, same one as last time. This is new though one of the things I like to say to people that want to help. No thank you I can screw it up by myself just fine I don’t need your help. I can screw my coins up by myself I don’t need a TPG to help me so I don’t slab. I don’t need to as 97% of my collection is circulated full Brown specimens and I don’t have any individual coins worth more than $325 ea. I guess I’m lucky that way. Just jumping on it in general. When the evidence is right in front of you how can you deny the fact that at anytime those HAIRS could be in YOUR next submission when you get it back?
True story, Missed by ball lightning in Kentucky by 2’ in 1979 Missed by lightning strike on metal guardrail by 6’ in 2013 Used to be a low voltage electrician back in the analog days with giant 72 volt batteries and capacitors as big as 5 gallon buckets get hit by one of those and it will cook you. Yeah I do fear lightning but lightning didn’t make the TPG guy seal a hair and the bulb into some poor scmucks slab.
