I am all over these despite the "its only platinum" mentality.

Great news! It was boring buying the Dolley Madison coins without a stampede. This will be much more fun.

The December 13 release date mentioned earlier in this thread was confirmed. Still no confirmation on the other details.

    Interested

I would be interested in a sampling of the gold coins that have low mintage but are worth about bullion prices. My interest would be to see what producers coins seem to considered less valuable when struck.
Also which countries are those who produce the most valuable coins.

All you need is the 20th century Krause catalog, you can find them by the hundreds.

Thanks for the official release announcement Alhas. Love to see stuff in writing.. Lots of sets and a whole lot of money. Can get the Platinum anniversary set or a big screen plasma TV. Going to have to meditate on this one for a while. Is this a normal fabrication/ premium for platinum from the mint? Seems a bit steep but as they tell me at work "what do you know". Good thing I thrive on rejection

    International sales

I wonder how many of the USA Mint coins are sent to other countries. Foreign nations are top heavy in cash right now. The middle east oil producers all together have near four trillion in cash to shop with.
Citi Bank just received an investor infusion of 7.5 billion U.S. . That relates to a now monoply share with shares currently held. Thirty thoudand might not be a lot. when you condsider world wide purchases for the platinum set.

I believe, the acceptance/demand for collecting platinum in majority of international markets is nonexistent. Gold dominates worldwide for jewelry and hording. The poor, in the emerging countries, will even save on food to buy gold for jewelry, dowry etc. The very rich in middle eastern countries (oil rich) and the emerging world measure their wealth in gold from beginning of time.

As for coin collecting in USA, I believe the mintage of 1/2 oz APE Proof is relatively very high compared to prior years. The total mintage of 1/2 oz APE proof is 45,000 (5,000 singles, 10,000 in 4-coin set and 30,000 in the 10th Anniversary set)! I like the "Enhanced" Reverse Proof coin but the high mintage of 30,000 is of concern. I may just buy the Reverse Proof, if reasonable, in the after market.
