Thanks for the comments, the bank didn't have any new boxes of pennies that day, so I took a shot. I did not consider it being a trifecta, thanks for pointing it out.
Triple nice! I've only found a buffalo in nickel rolls, but I've only opened literally a handful so far. That liberty head looks amazing though!
Thanks. The 1905 is the second to last year for the series and there were no errors on it, but still a shock to find. It is a numbers game. I don't buy a lot of nickels, usually when my bank doesn't have new boxes of pennies, so luck plays a part too. I think some come into circulation when someone passes and the family doesn't want to mess with them. I went to the bank today and my regular teller told me a customer brought it five mint rolls of State quarters that had belonged to his father, who passed recently, so I bought them, sadly they were not more valuable than face value, I checked them against errors, no luck. But, be nice to your teller as they will pull stuff for you that comes in.
I feel kind of lucky in the fact that I have a friend that's a teller in a larger area, and at both my local banks I've made small talk about old coins and currency and had positive feedback. I've only had one teller get what seems annoyed when I bring in bags of change or ask for change. I think it's just because she has to get out of her chair for something though..
That's a pretty cool find. The most I have ever asked for in nickels was $40. What kind of rolls did you find these in?
Nice find! Have you ever checked coin stars and change converter machines? I went to Publix today and found two steel cents, a 1918 wheatie and a ‘45 Mercury dime. Well worth searching!
