Sorry I said “back” instead of “reverse”! Probably like nails on a chalkboard.... I will get it eventually
Nice looking coins! The toning is desirable. Airtites are CHEAP, buy just enough to get the coins out of that album. Regardless if you're going to have them slabbed (graded) or not, they need immediate protection. Keep in mind, some of them may be cost prohibitive to grade. i.e. not worth it in the end. Pictures of the individual coins would help. GOOD LUCK!
I'd decide quickly, I wouldn't want many of them to tone more and at least a couple are very dark, probably not long before that toning goes to corrosion, if it hasn't already. Air-Tites are inexpensive and will virtually stop them from corroding.
The editing I have done should help with understanding; and, you can read the rules here - https://www.cointalk.com/threads/coin-talk-rules.34131/
I can easily understand new members not knowing the rules yet. But well established members do know them, and are all too well aware of them. And quite frankly, I expected better of you. When it comes to the rules regarding buying, selling, and trading, editing posts made by established members should not be necessary.
@GDJMSP - I honestly wasn't trying to make a deal on the Morgans. I meant them in a rhetorical sense, but I understand why you edited them since the statements themselves made it appear otherwise. No offense meant.
@Bundi, you're so ahead of the game, right now, it's almost insane. Just judging from these Morgans, your Grandfather was doing everything right. The only thing that can screw things up, now, is your lack of appreciation of that fact. That's understandable, don't get wrong what I'm trying to tell you, as you're new to this racket we call, "coin collecting." My advice would be, catch your breath. Pause, and think about this a little further. You were handed a gift-horse. Try to realize it. Think, right now, of stabilizing the state of preservation of these coins, while understanding, there's big money in this tarnish, whether that's counterintuitive, or not. Hang out here. Show us some more of your coin collection. Get our opinions on some grades, it won't cost you anything. Give yourself a shot at appreciating what your Grandfather was appreciating. Who the hell knows, he might have had something on the ball, something you're just not getting, as yet. Hey, you never know...
Thanks, I will certainly keep some for posterity...but this collection was left to my father and then eventually passed on to my twin sister and I. She has no interest in collecting and I agreed to "liquidate" the coins over time for us since I have more computer and Ebay experience. Of course, once I started researching all of this a year ago I went down a rabbit hole quickly realizing that I could make some costly mistakes. I have been lurking here for awhile and just decided to jump back in and get some of these sold. It will take awhile since I only plan on selling have a dozen or so at time and I will have plenty of questions I'm sure. It is nice to get so many expert opinions here!
One key to maximizing your return is good images of the coins. There are a few guys on CT that are really good and some even offer their services.
IMO, airtites are one of the most cost effective ways to store the coins. Even is you're going to sell them at a later date. Flips can cause damage if you don't handle them properly. Once you decide to sell, you can use the "For Sale" forum on this site. You won't have to deal with fees, you may not need to get them graded either. Just food for thought.
Lighten up, Doug. It was not an offer to buy. If I wanted to do so, I would have made contact privately. It was a sign of appreciation of how attractive the coin is. e.g. “ That is a beautiful coin. I would own it myself.” Hey, I have no dislike or argument with you—why jump all over me for a comment you KNOW was just appreciation? We do know better!
I love all of them, please don’t mess with them.....they are beautiful just as they are and will get only better with time...
That I know was just appreciation ? Really ??? Hmm - this IS what you said - "You ever want to sell the toned ones, you would have an immediate buyer right here." Now I don't know about anybody else, but that sure sounds like an offer to buy to me - and not just an expression of appreciation.
Doesn't sound like it to me. Nice coins. Dansco albums seem to tone them like that. I just bought two collection, all in Danscos and even the ASEs looked like that.
