Need help translating what I believe could be the year on this chinese charm coin. I manage to find out what they are (Mini I Ching Charms, Ching Dynasty Coins) but I can't find any source on how to translate the characters. Thanks in advance! IMG_5349.JPG IMG_5350.JPG

The obverse has the reign title of Jia Qing (1796-1820). However, charms were sometimes made with old reign titles long after the fact, as a sign of respect for the deceased emperors, so your piece isn't necessarily that old. Not sure about the age or origin of this piece, but hopefully that gives you a start for further research.

This is a good point, since the general makeup of that piece looks far too modern for the indicated date range. I think it's a modern (20th century) charm, particularly since it was manufactured with that bail loop attached in the original casting. I don't know of any period pieces with that feature, though I'll be the first to admit that what I do NOT know about Chinese coins and charms could fill a library.

Thank you for that info! I'll work from there, I found the "Mini I Ching..." part from websites selling them so maybe they misspelled "Qing"...thank you again! This really helps.
