Hi all, pretty sure these coins are all MD examples...is an MD coin considered an error coin? I'm thinking nope. But anywho I hold onto the ones I find cool or different as examples really, and if I can share them with others who have found similar coins and have questions about their finds. I hope these images will help. Cheers y'all...pros feel free to chime in if I'm incorrect with my assessment of these, thanx
I have a 1994 Quarter that has MD like yours. I think I'm really starting to get the hang of MD vs DD based on all the great examples including yours.
I believe your question was are MD considered an error, from my understanding yes they are considered a poor man's Doubled Die. But they don't carry any extra premium because they are so common, and you are correct MD. JMO Dave
I agree that it is MD on all of the examples. That is not an "error", as such, and is nowhere close to a doubled die. So, they have no premium value. Sorry.
I did read they are quite common and I have come across them often while coin hunting. However they are usually well worn, but i like to hold on to the sharper examples . Here's a ?? How common is MD in proofs? Would it make the proof more or less valuable/desireable?
In general, proof coins should not have MD. When they do, it doesn't add any value. It is not considered a real "error".
