Does it sound anything like the clank of silver? If it's any consolation, I've been taking it slower and doing different denominations. Lots of wheats, first V nickel, IHP, for silver Roosies and two silver quarters (one each in a $500 box). Cool but not overwhelming money wise to get, so do what works best for you. It's been a leaner year for customer rolled anything this year. Good to hear from you Bman! Hope the Morgan search is going well!

Next time I find myself in a name brand bank I'm going to ask for $100 of halves.

Bought my 3rd partial bag of halves from the coin machine at the same branch of one of my newer banks today. In chronological order these are the results:
    1. Bag 1 (3 months ago): $260 bag yielded (3) NIFCs + (1) silver quarter (lol)
    2. Bag 2 (1 month ago): $155 bag yielded (2) 90%ers + (2) 40%ers + (1) NIFC
    3. Bag 3 (today): $29 bag yielded (20) 90%ers + (3) 40%ers + (0) NIFC
Interestingly, today's bag actually only had $28 in halves but also had 5 clad quarters and 2 cents.

I guess the lessons are: 1) Don't get discouraged if the first few tries are not big successes, 2) Good things come in small packages!! :woot:

1 bank tonight had only $1 in loose halves:

    1, ‘68D 40%er and 1 crummy worn Cu-Ni clad bicentennial

    I’m happy!

I have all of these in my inventory. Due to money shortages, I have had to purge the newer dates and stop keeping totals.
I convinced one of my CUs to sell me a box of nickels once every month. Hopefully my scanner will work by then and I can show some pics.
My average seems to be about 5 pre-1960 dated nickels for every $20 bought. And there is usually more than an average of 1 1964 dated nickel per roll.
    Happy hunting!

Based upon my experiences, there must have been about 70 1964 dated nickels. We want to know the breakdown on the pre-1960 dated coins. Did you get any scarce ones? I still haven't found a 1938s, 1939d, 1939s, 1950d and 1951s.

If you have this data electronically, you should make a histogram @nickelsorter2017. Year/Mintmark on the x-axis, count on the y-axis.

When I started searching change in the early 1970s, it seemed like there were more 1964 nickels than all the other dates put together. I'm sure that wasn't actually true, but it seemed that way.

So I just went into my regular bank. That I do all normal business with. I’m tired of being treated like a person who tortures kittens for fun just because I want coins. I went to the one teller who likes me and asked to withdraw $250 as a box of dimes. She asked the head teller who has the vault key and she told her they only had one and they couldn't sell it. No problem...I get it. But her attitude! She wouldn't even look up and the irritation coming from her was tangible. Just so rude. Luckily the teller who likes me rounded up $250 in loose rolls, mostly Loomis and a few customer wrapped and gave those to me. I just don't understand! I don't understand why tellers are such jerks at least 75% of the time even though I'm as polite as I can be. I understand the bank may loose a bit of money handing out a box, however, I don't understand why that would upset the teller to the point where they want me drawn in quartered...it isn't like it comes out of their paycheck. That's all...I just don't understand. That, and the abysmal start to 2018 (2 40% and 4 Roosevelt's) have me seriously considering getting out.

bhh, I know where you're coming from. You can certainly advocate for yourself by approaching the cranky vault teller and asking what you could do to help her support your hobby, or simply go to a different bank, or banks, to pickup boxes of coin.

Found this interesting stamped message roll searching a box of nickels yesterday. The pictures are not very good. I am only showing the coin, because I save all Counter Stamped coins I run across. IMG_0603.JPG IMG_0604.JPG

@bhh I have a similar issue, however they usually have no problem if i order them ahead of time, because they are there just for you, you know? I don't like ordering them because it takes the "spur of the moment" decision out of it, but if that's what I have to do to get my box thats what I do.

My penny box will get bought tomorrow.
I sincerely hope the other bank has one.
Because the one from our bank left something to be desired.

I had a box of copper I had written on "50 SUPER nice"
Hardly. I'm looking at one right now that says "50 superb pennies " I wonder what I might find inside.

Thought I would post this, as I am working on my coin photography!
Was looking through a box of Lincolns when I encountered this 1968. Just a "deeper" strike than any others I found. It also looks like the planchet was not correctly lined up when the coin was struck causing the "In God We Trust" and "Liberty" to line up right against the rim. When looking at the 1968, it appears like the 2nd T in "Trust" is falling off the rest of the word. Doesn't look like it so much in the picture, but compared to the 1971, there is a distinct difference. 1971 is pictured just for comparison.
Not worth anything, just thought it was a neat coin with a different strike.

So the person who counts all the money at the place I work was counting the coins out of the copy machine. It's like 5 cents a copy or something. It gets used semi frequently. She usually saves all the good coins for me, mostly Wheaties, but once a 40% half. Well she's emptying it and I walk in to fill in my time sheet and she says
"Some jerk put these foreign coins into the copy machine" and she gestures them to me.

Needless to say I taught he all about them! That was a really good work day! I've never even found 1 v nickel, but 4 in one day is amazing!
Then on my to a restaurant as I was on break from school I made a wrong turn and ended up at bank of America. Of course, I just had to stop in. They had 130 in halves and a funny back and forth went on as I posted before. And this is what I got out of 1 roll. 20180125_185606.jpg 20180125_185614.jpg I've gotten more 90% halves in this year than I have in all my years of CRH, and we aren't even done with the first month of the year!
    Goodles luck to all!
