They're not scratches, the lines are raised up. I was thinking maybe another coin on top of it left an impression maybe? It almost looks like metal on top of the coin. Maybe someone melted metal on it? Thanks for your response. Much appreciated.
it looks to me to be incuse see how it goes right through the L in liberty. If it were raised it would go over the L but thats just my humble opinion.
Sorry, but they ARE scratches. The scratched metal has to go somewhere when the object mades the depression in the coin's surface. In a scratched coin like yours, the metal that was scratched into the surface was raised by the object that caused the depression into the surface of the coin. I, as well as others, can assure you with 1,000% certainly that your coin is scratched.......
