    It doesn't look like an "extra" chunk to me. It looks like the coin took a hit or some sort of tool was used to create the gouge. Yes, pics of the opposite side and the rim might help.

    At this point I would agree with Chris. Looks like it took a hard hit and the metal was shoved up.
