I thought he maybe just wanted an opinion on what people think it's worth now. If he's pretending to have one, then he's really just fooling himself...IMO. Side question : Which has a more reliable price guide? PCGS or NCG? I go to PCGS but checked NCG last night and some prices on some coins doesn't quite match. I was looking at the 1960 D small date Lincoln.
You're right, but stick around for a while. I promise you'll soon understand why we ask for proof in cases like this. Perhaps the next guy will claim to have multiple examples of the 69-S DDO and a few 58s to boot (true story). Welcome, sir.
No i hear ya. I give my finds away. I only own a Wisconsin extra leaf quarter. I keep that for show. Yes i ger excited when i found 6 total wam's. (no 99) or a 95 doubled die. It's a hobby. I have 13 grandbabies and their ears and eyes raise when they see me walk thru the door with a box of cents and popcorn. Low tell me. Who's the winner
He/she is asking how much it is worth which will vary dramatically whether it’s real or not. The reason people are asking for pictures is probably because we don’t want to get this guy’s hopes up by giving a price, without even determining if its worth that price or not.
The best place to getting current pricing information is the auction archives at Heritage Auctions. I find both the PCGS and NGC guides to be on the high side.
As of @paddyman98 #20 post asking for the seventh time about images of the mythical coin, still no images! It then posses the question:
Ahh thanks ! This brings it back to reality for me hehe. I think this tells me to make big money off of coins, one needs to invest money. I'll think about doing more buying/investing and keeping it for a few years in hopes that i make twice what I pay for. This is probably the best answer I've gotten so far from CT.
There is 3 parts to this answer and goes for all questions about value and coins. With or without errors. 1. To confirm variety. In this case a photo on a scale will help, but other tests are needed as well to confirm this error. Like metal content and this can't be done visually. 2. The value will also depend on grade. If the coin is raw this can only be done by posting clear photos of both sides of the coin. 3. This is a coin collectors forum and gosh we just love to see photos of coins. Especially ones this rare. This coin in particular would be very valuable no matter what the grade due to its extreme rarity. Having said that a high mint state one would be worth more than an AU one.
I thought it was coin talk, is it just for collectors? I understand wanting to see pics, but for this particular thread I just didn't think a pic was required since his question was regarding the worth. Like you said, the coin is a rarity regardless of the grade. I was hoping to see people's opinion on the worth because it's different everywhere it seems.
You just don't get it do you? Yes his question was regarding the worth. I even showed an example on post #11 But he makes this claim that he found one.. a claim that many others before have made. With any claim we need proof. Read post #36 If you stick around on CoinTalk long enough you will begin to understand the claims that people make.. especially those new to coin collecting of the rare stuff they find. A good example is the 1969 S Doubled Die. We see those like twice a week!
Who's "we" ? And why do you need proof if someone claims they have a coin? Is it CT's rule? The community's rule? or just a group of people who's been on this forum for a long time? I don't care what he claims (or anyone for that matter) he has, I was curious what people's (or the so-called "experts") think of what it's worth. That's my point that you don't seem to get with regards to this thread. Anyway, I've spent enough time on this thread lol. Have a nice day.
Regardless of weather or not the OP has the real deal. When it comes down to how much it is worth that's simple. It is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
