Recently I had a return on EBay and accidentally refunded the money before the buyer sent the item. Fortunately he came through with the return but it made me nervous. So I would like to pass the honesty on if I ever find myself at the other end.

As for the OP’s situation I would not be able to look at myself in the mirror if I didn’t return the proofs. Keeping them would be well into the unethical territory. But I would expect to be provided with a shipping label and secure package both for my convenience and to avoid liability for damage. And if the seller were to refuse and expect me to pay return shipping I would keep the coins with a clear conscience.

Honesty is an extremely strong word. When the bank teller gives you an extra hundred and you give it back. When the 17 or 18 year old cashier gives you too much change and you give it back, telling them that they made a mistake. When you have never stole a thing in your life, I think that's honest. Think back. Are you that person?
My problem is that I have been sent the wrong coins - different from the listing and different from pictures. The auctioneer said that it was between me and the seller. The seller just disappears into the darkness and there is no way to recoup. That is bad news. Do not tell me that I am dishonest!!!!!!!!!!!!

You’re either part of the problem or part of the solution...

So, someone does something evil to me, I can even the "score" by doing evil to someone else.

OK. I will tell you you're being dishonest.

What a shameful story. Was this dealer a PNG member?

All that needs to happen is the seller emails the OP a return shipping label. The OP prints the label and attaches it to the original shipping box. I’ve done this many times when I had to return merchandise. I can’t believe how such a simple process has turned into a multi page discussion. More than once people have commented about the risk the OP will incure by returning the package. Hogwash! Box it up, attach the seller supplied and insured return label and hand it off to the parcel post company. Game over! This process is completed hundreds of thousands of times a day around the world.
