I have a beautiful 1968S Lincoln Cent that I can’t seem to figure out what’s going on with the “S”. It looks like maybe it’s over another letter or possibly doubled or just looks odd. Can you please help me decide? I took color and also inverted so there is two different views to see. Thanks a bunch

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

Yes, there are lots and lots of mangled mintmarks throughout the series in the late-60's through most of the 70's. San Fran from 68-74, and Denver all the way through until the rehub in the early 80's.

Thank you for the info. I will look into it more with your suggestions. Do you know if something like this may be valuable now or just something to hold onto.

On this particular date you will often find filled mint marks and machine doubling and as Kurt said above. Worn dies and machine chatter can cause this. I can't really say from your photos.

Chances are it's as Kurt and others have said. However, the real "value" in doing as suggested, especially if planning to stick with this hobby, is the learning experience. The experience and knowledge acquired will benefit you more than simply discovering an RPM ever would.

    Very cool avatar.

Me too lol I have a bunch I just got that are so nice. I’ve already put them in my homemade coin holders made out of file folders and clear sheet protectors lol. I cut the folders into a bunch of 2”x4” pieces and folded in half then used a 50cent piece and traced the circle on them then cut away. Then cut the protector sheets into 2” squares, heated 3 sides and pinched with a tool to make it look nice and left the top open and inserted my coins sealed the tops and crazy glued the folder pieces to the sheet protector and BAM!!!! There it is lol. It was fun I guess.

Thank you and the avatar is something I did this past August. I am a Leo and I always tell everyone I am a true Lioness. So I had to prove it by morphing the front face features from me to the Lioness. Amazing results from everyone on social media lol. I tried to tell them but they didn’t agree. As Leo’s all do, I had a point to prove. Lol.
