20151005_100357.jpg 20151005_100050.jpg A while ago I come across this article in the newspaper that I am not sure if you members are aware of, that may be of interest to some especially those planning to visit Rome in the future. On my last trip there I was lucky enough to get time to explore the Mausoleum and nearby Ara Pacis Augustae, could only see the outside walls of the Mausoleum but this pic and article shows a view from the top. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/201...eror-augustus-restored/?WT.mc_id=tmg_share_fb
Also if you look at the newspaper pic you will see another building just off to the left, a glass walled building protecting the Ara Pacis Augustae, my pic below shows what's inside. You have the Altar of Pax (peace) inside an enclosure this type of structure is depicted on coins of Tiberius and Nero which a lot of you own, here is two of mine. 346.jpg 2015-01-07 01.07.50-21.jpg 1085.jpg
Hopefully the Mausoleum will be opened to the public soon and will be a tremendous addition to an already fantastic place to visit ROME.

I'd love to go back there again. Missed a lot of things when I was there.

    Great coins!

Nice coins guys. Everytime I'm in Rome I wonder when the mausoleum will be restored. Good to see its happening. I wonder which designer is funding the restoration?

I thought it is only Nero's coin that shows the Ara Pacis. The Augustus alter types are the Ara Providentiae but I'm not sure we know where that was...or do we?
