I was wondering if this was considered a rainbow toned Penny. In order to see the colors really well I tilted it towards the light. I’m still learning so if this isn’t classified as anything with no additional value if someone could let me know Or what to look for when it comes to toned coins ones worth keeping and prob not worth keeping. I find them all interesting but only trying to keep the ones that really stick out. Any information on toned coins and opinions is appreciated to gain more knowledge on coin collecting. Is there any real value to toned pennies? What to look for? Are they worth keeping?
in my opinion theres no value in toned circulated memorial cents, that being said, i've roll searched tens of thousands of memorial cents and few years back purchased a littleton cent album and now have four or five pages filled with circulated toned memorial cents and still continue to add to it, its a neat little side collection with little investment ( the album is worth more than the coins in it)... no, older coins can demand a premium when toned, but memorial cents are just to recent, maybe in 60 or 70 years?.....
Lol I’ve read this on another thread.... seriously though? Isn’t it part of the aging of a coin being exposed to light and things? If it was caused by urine why would the Morgan dollars cost so much? Lol
I am glad you have a good sense of humor. Morgan Dollars rainbow toning on silver is much different than rainbow toning on Copper.. In my honest opinion.. The toning on Cents has more to so with the normal circulation environment, environmental damage, than natural storage toning.
Thank you for clairifying that the silver toning is different then copper toning. What about the wood like grain on some pennies is that anything at all or no. Should I just be looking for the more obvious things like wide am and closed am and doubled dies. Versus the colors?
I call them washer toners because most of the time the toning is caused by the chemicals in clothing detergent when they get left in a pocket.
I only want New York’s finest Paddy Pee on my Cents thank you! Right there in the wheel burrow Paddy. Do you need some water, maybe a little privacy? Lol. Reed.
