Well, here she is. My latest addition to my 7070 type set. Finally! So what you think of her? I think she's beautiful. Don't forget to hit that like button!!!
Thanks for the looks. Anyone notice the die crack going around over half the rim? Also any rare die marriages for the date?
I’m at xf 45 details. Old cleaning and a great die crack plus a very worn obverse die. You can tell by the lack of denticles on the lower rim and the metal flow lines from the rim as well
Still hoping for the capped bust experts to have a look see about the die marriage. This is a skill I can' seem to nail down. I figure it' most likely to be the most common type. I have missed it on every one. Please help.
There is one on Coinfacts with the same die crack. Cert #84139636 They show the variety as GR-14 RE, Capped, Lg Let. It's possible that same reverse die was used with more than one obverse die. I don't have a good reference book.
I agree that it is AU details. The reverse has been polished and shows quite a bit of hairlines. This coin is actually the GR-13 variety. It shares the same reverse as GR-14, but the obverse is distinguishable by looking at the small curl above her temple (on 13, it is heavy as shown here; on the 14, that curl is more of a wisp). The GR-13 is the most common of all varieties of 1838.
