Unattributed coin from a bulk lot. Fortunately, I can make out the entire obverse legend and almost the entire reverse legend as well. I'm 100% certain it's Septimius Severus and from Nicopolis ad Istrum.

Unlike most coins from this city, it does not bear the name of the magistrate/legate under which it was issued, only the name of the city on the reverse, along with a seated deity I believe is Zeus, but could be Serapis or (less likely) even a goddess, such as Homonoia.

I have looked in Wildwinds, acsearchinfo, BMC Greek, Sear Greek Imperial, Pick and Moushmov, but to no avail.

Does anybody (@John Anthony ?) have Varbanov or other reference that might list this one?

    Severus Nikopolis ad Istrum.jpg
    Septimius Severus, AD 193-211
    Roman provincial Æ (tetrassarion?) 26.1 mm, 10.70 g, 6 h
    Moesia Inferior, Nicopolis ad Istrum
Obv: ΑV ΚΑΙ Λ - CΕ CΕΥΗΡΟC, radiate head right
Rev: Ν[...]ΠΟΛΙ [...] ΠΡΟC ΙCΤΡΩ, male deity (Zeus; less likely, Serapis) seated left, holding object (patera?) and spear/scepter.
    Refs: ?

It matches the combination of obverse and reverse inscription as this Æ 27 in Pick, AMNG I:

    Capture.JPG

However, that coin depicts Asklepios standing, not Zeus. This coin is not in Pick. There is one with Zeus seated in Pick:

But it is much smaller, an Æ 18, with accordingly shorter legends on the obverse and reverse.

There is this coin in Moushmov (and in Pick):

    Capture 3.JPG

Which is the right size and with Zeus seated left, but the reverse inscription is completely different, giving the name of the Magistrate Aurelius Gallus. It is shown here:

    Thanks everybody in advance!

And feel free, as usual, to post anything you feel is relevant!

It looks much better in hand. The dark patina makes it hard to photograph.

Z, did you inadvertently cut off a few numbers from the acsearch coin ID when copying the link? The link doesn't work and I think the coins IDs have more than three numbers.
