OK, I'm working on my own grading skills so I would like to see where I'm at with these Lincoln's (plus, I'm trying to get most of my "better" coins photographed). I would appreciate opinions on these coins. I'm not going to post what I think the grades are because I don't want to influence anyone until after I have a few replies.

    Here is a 1909 VDB

1914-D, note...this coin is slightly bent (can be seen easier in the reverse photo).

1914-? This coin is something of a mystery. It came out of a bulk wheat bin at an old coin shop I used to visit (I was young and would buy wheat cents for $0.05 each). When I went through the collection a few years ago and found it I assumed it was a 1914-S...but now that I have some high res photos...I'm not so sure. What do you think (I posted the cropped high res of the date and mint mark).

    Thanks for the opinions!!!

I am also a raw beginner, but I would say that, if submitted to a grading company, only the 1909-S and the 1924-D would come back with a grade.
    I would say:
    1909-S F-12
    1924-D VF-20

But this is the first time I have ventured to express a grade for someone else's coins.

I think the 1909 VDB would as well...but for the rest, I agree. I'm more interested in a "details" grade and a net grade for the rest.

    1909S F-12
    1909 EF-40
    1911S F-12
    1914D VG-8
    1914S F-12
    1924D F-12
    1931S EF-40

i'm still not good at grading, but that is what i think. btw, i think that might be a D mintmark on the "mystery wheatie".

    1909 VDB VG-20 Cleaned

    1909 S VG-8

    1911 G-3 Pitting

    1941 S G-4 Corrodent

1914 D too much damage. No grade

    1914? I beleave it is a D

    1924 D G-4

    1931 S F-12

This is only my opinion, but if a coin is damage as with the 1914 D I would not grade it. The 1909 VDB looks to be cleaned but again this is my opinion.

I was hoping to get a few more responses...but so far this is quite helpful.

I am curious though, I don't see in evidence of cleaning on the 1909 VDB. What are you seeing?

09 63 RB....no wear at all, strong fully struck, no distracting marks, luster keeps it from grading higher

    09-s f-15
    24-D f-15
    31-S xf-40

on the 09-s and 24-d, just a tad more jaw seperation would get vf $$$ from me. 31-s has been cleaned.

I used my scanner to get another image of the 1914 coin with that is hard to identify. I think the scan gives a bit better of a picture. What do you guys think, D or S?

I disagree with the grade of the 1909 VDB. I'd say XF-45.

It sounds like the consensus on the 1914 is that it is a 1914-D. Is this something that ANACS could authenicate as they slab problem coins (and that would be worth sending to them)? I don't care about the grade, but just having proof that it is a 1914-D would be nice.

Any opinions if ANACS is worth it in this case...or if I should even do anything.

Okay, the VDB I go AU-55, 09 S I go F-15, 11 S F-15, 14-D G-4, 14-S VF-20, 24-D F-15, 31-S VF-30. Now the question on the damaged "14-D", looks like a D to me, but the real question would be, is it a real one, or an added D. That is a big thing IMO, and hard to determine because of the condition and damage done to it. Something just honestly doesn't seem right. But your best bet would be to send it in to Anacs, and getting it attributed would be my thought. I'm on the fence though on this coin. Best of luck either way, and my grade on it would Fair-2. :D

    Phoenix
