Hi, Everyone, I come here ofter looking around getting information/help when needed. This is a great place to learn.. Well today I didn't come looking for help, I come to show you my newest find, and maybe the best error I ever found.. Wow I found a clad missing Madison Dollar..I wanted to show it you all before I sell it. It's pretty, pinkish on the reverse, not near as dark as a clad missing quarter.. here are a couple more/different photo's if you want to view it closer(just click on them).. Let me know what you all think about it. Pretty isn't it.. Any ideals as to what this one might bring. :hail::thumb:
Not to rain on your parade, but I'll go 8-5, with half your money back if you lose, that you have a coin with post-mint damage.
:smile oops..no rain in site... I was letting you see it.. not looking for sarcasm.. I know what the error is. But Thank You for taking the time to look and give your opinion..
Way to go!! Hontonia----I disagree.....I think Becky has found a real winner with this one! I can't wait to see what it goes for!! Speedy
It looks like an authentic error to me. The weakly-struck areas on both faces are signs of authenticity, and effects often seen in missing clad errors. How much does it weigh in grams?
I'm always willing to learn. How does missing clad translate into dings and dents such as those on the rims at approximately 4:00 and 10:00?????
Thank You Speedy.. and Thank You Mr Diamond.. the weight is 6.0g and the reg dollars weight is 8.0g, on my scales anyway.
Yes I did, This time I preordered a box from the bank.. I had went through about 80% when I found it. Only other errors were a few star burst reverse (im not sure really about star burst, they look like struck thru errors to me) and found a lot of pretty thick die cracks obverse, all pretty much in the same place and about the same thickness, I found one that I guess would be called a bounced die? Where Liberty's gown goes onto the rim. and that's it, out of the whole box... Im pretty lucky this one was in there..
Those dents are no doubt post mint damage and in no way would be related to the error. If the coin was struck with a missing clad layer the damage could easily have occurred after striking.
Hi, The two dents on the rim which oppose each other 180 degrees and show on obverse and reverse indicate an authentic error in and of themselves. If there were only one dent, it would be suspect. The streaking between those two pinches on the reverse, may also be mint made, would have to loop it to be sure. Keep looking and try to find some major errors like, missing edge lettering, double edge lettering, partial edge lettering, blank planchets, and the ultimate blank planchet with motto. Good hunting Rich
edge & rim pictures It's not real even, is your's? nice GW by the way.. Rich, Thank You... Im pretty sure that streaking on the rev. is mint it just looks like a deeper color, Do you know what it is? here are some more photo's check it out the letters they, wave up and down on the edge, off the edge, all kinds of things going on with this one. It's really a neat error coin! I've sure had a lot of lookers ask questions about this one, a lot wanting more photo's.. so I took these show's it pretty well.. I had an offer to have this published.. I kind of wish I had.
I found this-- http://cgi.ebay.com/2007-P-JAMES-MA...goryZ524QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I would have thought that even with 5 days left it would have been alittle higher.... Speedy
$10 shipping by US First Class Mail? What a bargain! IMHO the "wavy" edge lettering is simply the result of the dents, not something that the mint's process could produce.
I really don't see that much problem in the cost of shipping. If I mail a coin of around that size in a bubble mailing, 1st class, it will run me around $3-$4 for shipping. Now add in the cost of packing and gas, and you have around the $10. Speedy
