I was wondering if someone here could help me. My name is Jeff. I'm not a coin collector, but I know enough to get by. My Dad is a pretty big collector, though. I'm looking for a Christmas present for him. I've been buying him Mercury Dimes for his set for the holidays for years, but as his set gets better it gets harder to find the coins he needs.

I'm looking for a 1939-S Mercury Dime MS67FB - graded by PCGS (preferrably) or NGC. It's listed on PCGS at $3500, I would be willing to go up to $4000 for it.

I've been looking through auctions and websites for a couple weeks. I can't find one anywhere. The other coins he needs are out of my price range (1923-S MS65FB for example).

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

    Jeff

For one, 4000 is WAY too much to pay, secondly, 3500 is still WAYYYYYYYY high. PCGS is way over the top with prices. I would expect to spend 3000-3300.

    I really appreciate the help.

He's actually got a 65 already...I think he's 8th on the all-time list on PCGS. He's working on upgrading now to move up. It's getting really tough to find coins he needs.

Thanks again. Any additional info or help would be greatly appreciated.

    Jeff

I would add it to your wantlist at Heritage, TT, and a few other places just so if one shows, you get informed.

I don't know of a dealer that specializes in these, but you might consider posting a WTB in the PCGS BST forum (if I'm allowed to say that here): http://forums.collectors.com/categories.cfm?catid=7

    Good luck in your search...Mike

Actually, his price is not too far off. 2 have sold on Heritage this year - $3450 and $4312.

I noticed the one on cybercoin , I dont see split bands on the middle and the lower diagonal band appears a little weak, I would question the grade.
