Finally was able to acquire my last coin I needed for a complete P D S toned steelie wheats. Took me about 2 years to find the right pieces. These are in my toned pcgs Wheat registry. Here is the 43-s that finished it. And link to my other wheats if anyone is interested in checking them out. https://www.pcgs.com/SetRegistry/ha...ulation-strikes-1909-1958/publishedset/148048
Dude, this is awesome. I'm going to use this as an example in my upcoming merit badge class. I try to impress upon the Scouts to collect something they LIKE, and to be a connessieur within that field, as opposed to hoarding as much junk as they can. Steel cents are not overly expensive, but it's something you LIKE and you spent two years finding the three best pieces you could. Bravo.
Appreciate all the comments. ,Hope to inspire some youngings to start collecting. maybe the "cool colors" will help them get into it a bit more, that would be great. Here is the 43-d as the trueview doesn't show its true color.
This is making me want to do a short set of them now. I like the ones that drip with luster, and they can be hard to find.
The D&S are awesome coins !!! If i were you, i would keep searching for a P mint upgrade. Still, that is an extremely nice steelie set though.
Prince and I both love your steelies! He especially likes that sweet purple tone, just his color! Seriously though those are some superb specimens! Thanks for sharing. Reed
Yes I call the 43 my "ugly toner",that coin was the cheapest though at 25$ . It's hard to find toned steelies that the sellers aren't asking thousands of dollars for
Agree with physics-fan. I have seen hundreds, thousands of steelies. And I don't recall seeing toning.
If you are interested in upgrading your P mint, I just got an email from one of my favorite dealers. He has a P in 66 for a crazy awesome price! http://www.eyeappealingcoins.com/1943-1c-lincoln-cent-wheat-reverse-type-2-steel-pcgs-ms66-cac.html
This Steelie has a blue green hue around the almost the entire back, but you can only catch it at specific angles. Here you can see it mostly at the bottom, edges and top above "one". The front only has minimal blue green and is much less noticeable. I would totally get this slabbed if I could, Also sorry I can't get the color to pop im using a phone camera ha
Your coin appears to have been polished, at least from these pictures. Those surfaces do not appear natural. The colors left may be reside from whatever was used on the coin. Sorry
I see what you mean because of the less clear fields around the letters. I wondered myself but I never saw any polishing lines and coin retained its cartwheel luster so I wasn't sure. Either way it at least LOOKS proof like in person and has a very subtle coloring that I love. Anyone else have an idea about it? Also @physics-fan3.14 I wish I could get you a better picture of the color/coin, it's probably polished but i'd like to know more anyways ha
