Hi all This is my newest pick up. I never could have afforded this but i recently went to work on saturdays for my friend in his new coin store. I believe it is NOE-3 but I'm hoping someone with more experience than me can verify. Supposedly only 6-7 are known so this one would be something of a find. Thanks for any help Richard
I'm almost 100% sure it is Noe-3. Compared it to the image in the Whitman Encyclopedia of Colonial Coins. Everything matches as far as I can see. Regarding the rarity: The Encyclopedia describes Noe-3 as URS 6 (Universal Rarity Scale), with 17 to 32 specimens estimated to exist. A very worthy example you have there in my opinion.
I worked in my friends coin shop for ten Saturdays, 5 hrs a week for, this coin which is fair if it were a common variety. the fact that it is one of the rare ones is a bonus
I would send it to ANACS since they are cheap. That would give you confirmation of being legit, and they could ID the variety. Then you take a few pics and crack it out. Now you have visual proof it was real and you can hold it. And it didn't cost a fortune to get that done.
I am actually pretty certain of the authenticity of this coin and was actually pretty sure it was a NOE-3. I was asking for confirmation on the attribution because I don't have the proper book to be certain. Eduard has confirmed it for me in his post above. I had previously id'ed it from photos on the PCGS website. All of the markers are correct which i doubt would be exact on a counterfeit.
