It's been great, talking to those of you who can take jokes, and cut loose, as well as not be so uptight about things.... A few words to the few elitists, and unsociables.... "Friends and family, and yes, sometimes even our dogs, is all we have, and all that really matters in this world, i'm sorry that you think otherwise." You can't get to know who someone is, by the pictures of their coins, besides how fat their wallet is, and that's not what i'm about, and I feel sorry for those that are like that.
Peter, thank you for creating this site, it really is a nice place for the most part.
As for a couple of ya, I'll see ya across the street. ( Please delete my S/N. )
At the risk of being presumptuous I'd like to say something. I assume this stems from the 'Thank You Steve (and Goodbye)' thread. I'm new here and didn't want to come off as elitist- I'm far from it. Most people, including me, like to just chat from time to time. I've made lots of friends online and have no interest in sites that would strictly enforce a sterile, topic only, environment. But time is limited and I like to get right into the coin discussions. I'm involved with a few other forums and have found that the most successful have a place for friendly chat. I would suggest another sub forum, listed below the main forum, where people can do just that... call it Coin Chat or whatever. And it doesn't have to be profane or break the family standards of the board. Just a place to differentiate the two natural elements.
No, has nothing to do with the goodbye thread .... It was actually a comment targeted towards me, my family, and dog, which I had posted pictures of, ( excuse me whoever got offended by seeing my family ) ... I don't reckon I got to chat with ya much Trvst, you sound like a level headed kind of guy though, have fun, and there really is a lot of great people on this site.
Well there ya go, I was being presumptuous. You should see my family (ugly as sin) and my dog (uglier). I'm not much of a poster as I'm so new to collecting but I'm sorry to see you go. I hope I'll still see you at the other site.
Pennycase, I have not read the thread yet that you are talking about but I agree with you that some of us like a face behind the words or see a coin not only for it's luster but for it's history and wish to discuss that view or other views other then grade. However, this coin forum does have space for people like us who enjoy a good play on words, a good joke, some history, and a little hey how are you doing kind of thing that is tied into our passion or interest in coins/rags. I happen to enjoy reading about everyone's different interests and respect those interests for one I learn things I may not have even considered or had background information on and two everyone has a right to their own take on a coin. Now if you leave, I myself might have one less person that I could read a post and post to who may want to discuss a coin with what we may consider a "more personal touch". So why not reconsider and add another 400 + posts and who knows maybe we will have our own subgroup that might lure lurkers to post thier perspectives on the coins/rags that they collect.
Cody...I would truly hate to see you leave here due to a few members comments or misunderstandings. While this forum may not have a separate section for non-coin realted smalltalk, we still manage to make this a realtively personal kind of place without all of the politics and slamming that goes on at some other sites. Please...reconsider. Your presence here would be sorely missed. And don't forget about the Grapevine show next weekend! I'd better see you here . PM me and let me know when you'll be coming. Robin
I'm sorry to see Pennycase go. It's too bad that whatever the problem was that a solution couldn't be reached. catman
PC, first ND now you. I wont ask either of you to stay but I will say thanks for all the enjoyable posts both of you contributed. I wish both of you a great 2005 in whatever you both do. Aloha.
Cody, I'm very sorry to see you go. I found your posts to be informative and knowledgeable and I was hoping to learn about currency from you. Good luck in all you do and I wish you nothing but the best
I read a slightly negative comment about a picture of a family and a dog, but I don't think it was aimed at you personally, just a comment about the direction the group is heading. I still think you should hang in there and keep offering your insights and your pictures of the dog. I'm fairly new here and joined this forum because so many others have such a high 'noise to signal' ratio, where the coin talk is lost in the chatty stuff. This is still the best group I've found and it looks like the recent winds of change have been identified and are being addressed by the moderators. Some good ideas have already been offered to deal with these changes. I don't think you will find a better group, even with these changes coming. I'm sure that there will eventually be room for the folks that want a strictly 'black and white' coin talk forum and the folks who enjoy sharing a little bit of themselves with others. I, myself, will most likely never post any photos of myself or my family. I lean more towards the 'black and white' end of the spectrum. Doesn't mean that there isn't room for everybody. We are all coin enthusiasts and we all contribute. In any case, your absence will be a loss to the group.
The person responsible for the "dogs and families" comment once made a comment about Canadians which I found offensive.I made my little rant in response and then forgot about it, he is ,after all, entitled to his opinion. Since then I have enjoyed his posts and consider him a valuable member of this forum. It would be a shame to see an active member leave the forum because of a casual coment like this. If we don't like someones post just pass over it and go to the next. There are too many good people and too much good information here to leave it behind. Just my opinion. Bill
I agree. I was out of town for the New Year and came back to the little surprise here. Who cares what someone else said in a public forum? Just skip or put that person on the ignore list. The different view points (anybody's) that are posted here regarding coins are of benefit to many and leaving accomplishes little. As for ND, I think an expaination is in order. Many will assume the worse and stereotypes about dealers' attitudes towards collectors will be validated.
"As for ND, I think an expaination is in order. Many will assume the worse and stereotypes about dealers' attitudes towards collectors will be validated". Happy New Year Dave, I hope you enjoyed your trip. I've been posting with ND on occassion for nearly a year and if he could tolerate me then believe me his leaving had nothing to do with attitude. He was a great guy who only wanted the best for the hobby and it's collectors. I hope that he will decided to return as a poster when the time is right for him.
Too true,Highlander.I am very new here as well, but I think that Pennycase should reconsider leaving the board.By the way, nice man walking around in a square.I reckon it was much better than that waving hand.
Pennycase Sorry to hear that your leaving !!! I have not personally read the post that was offensive to you,But I think the majority of the folks here had no problem with your pics I know I didnt !!! I will miss your posts and knowledge .
