It's not like there aren't precedents for this. Check out both the Jewish and Islamic states (the Amish have the same rule), no graven images.

I’m all in favor of redesigning our coinage as long as it doesn’t include people, dead or alive.

Those Fijians. Are they party animals, or what? I dig their $7 note to honor their rugby sevens Olympic champions.

That was tried back in 1942 to save metal for the cent, and even with the great patriotic fervor of the time it failed. It was tried again during the cent shortages of 1974 and it once again failed to bring the cents back out of hiding. And that was back when that extra half cent per coin was worth significantly more in terms of purchasing power than it would be worth today.

Wasn't that the design on the back of the Bicentennial quarter?

No, drummer boy. Washington Crossing was on the New Jersey quarter.

I took a survey at the mint and I don’t remember all of the options but some of the new quarter designs for after the ATB designs hinted at being:sports, famous women, all the decades of American history, something with the environment and like 1 or 2 more.

Probably start a new Quarter series. They have lots to choose from:
    State Tree
    State Flower
    State Shrub
    State Bird
    State Fossil
    State Mineral

    are but a few choices.

It seems to me that Washington isn't really crossing the Delaware - he's watching some other guys in a boat crossing the Delaware...saying "That way! Go that way!"
