Don't forget about the 2018 Summer FUN coin show! http://www.funtopics.com/summer-fun.html In Orlando Florida
Here's an interesting little (15mm) pick bin coin I picked up at the show: Cappadocia, Caesarea; Pseudo-autonomous, Time of Claudius (41-54) Ox: KAICAPENWN; Diademed bust of Apollo right, quiver behind Rx: ETOYC - IL (?); Tripod I'm guessing a date at the right of the tripod, just not sure what it is (maybe a gamma?)
Totally agree. Too much traffic to maneuver the camper, but I can do Orlando. Next seven years, eh? I shall die a happy man..........
The Tampa Convention Center is pretty easy to reach by car being right off the Selmon Expressway. We even found parking in their own garage which saves a few blocks of walking. Driving from the other coast eats into the time spent hunting though.
Mark Reid had a big collection of cool artifacts all from one family collection. We picked up this Byzantine lock cover in the shape of a dog for $70. I think it is made from bronze. I am calling the dog a Pomeranian because I used to have one long ago. I included a bargain bag Republican denarius for scale. I realize my picture is out of focus so I will need to try again. John
Mark Reid is a boss. Maybe we could get a FUN show in Ottawa? Although, ONS (Ottawa Numismatic Show) doesn't sound as fun. Erin
Another pickup from the recent FUN show is this rather spectacular bronze spear point from the Abe Rosen collection. I knew I had to have it as soon as I saw it so I kind of tuned out the dealer's patter about what a great piece it was and where it was from and yeah, yeah, whatever, I will take it. If you are familiar with the SNG series that the spear is sitting on, you will know they are folio sized, meaning huge (15x12 inches). The spear point is over 17 inches long and maxed out my gram scales. It is from about 1000 BC. Because I like a still life with coins, I threw in some random lots of coins I got from Nick at Pegasi. Another view: John
Thanks, it is big enough you can almost use it as a short sword. The edges are fairly sharp while the point is a little blunted. I missed seeing you Aidan, wish we could have been there the same day.
