The Job gave me this cool gift for Xmas. Should I keep it or would I be better off selling. Not that I need the money but just a thought.
It looks like a 2006-W Proof. Did you get the US Mint box & certificate ? First Year of issue of these.
My advice would be keep it. It was a gift and the giver had a reason. Be happy with it and hold it for the future. As you said, "not that I need the money...". What a nice gift!
So the 2006 is seriously massed produced when compared to other years does that make it less valuable than the others?
Is this what I should get? https://m.ebay.com/itm/2006-W-50-1-...412108?hash=item4d65eb774c:g:ixEAAOSwyGZZ7aKv
Yes 2006-W are readily available. 2017-W Could be the lowest mintage of the Gold Buffalo series Mintage of sold is 15,184 as of Jan 5th, 2018 per Numismatic News website. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/post-your-favorite-coin-purchase-of-2017.308309/page-2#post-2951272
Yes, that is the box they came in 2006. That is a real reasonable price to kept your gift in. $800 for the coin & the box from the US Mint in 2006. So, if you don't need the money at present. It's worth keeping, who knows, gold may really go up again this year.
I think that I might have spent the extra $30, or so, and had it professionally graded. That way, he and the future buyer will have some assurance that the coin is genuine, plus the coin is secured in a good holder. Then again, maybe not....at least not until I was looking to submit something else.
I run a well oiled operation that has been extremely profitable for the man for over 20 years. He gave me a Rolex for Christmas a few years back. I’m still young, he scooped me up right out of high school. Anyway that was just to give you the context of such gifts.
Nice gift. My advice is to put it in the safe and hang on to it as insurance for stormy times in the future.
