Any idea from our Roman experts, why ths coin was withdrawn? I threw a bid at it and was tracking it. Today it was pullled. https://www.cngcoins.com/coin.aspx?CoinID=349821
I can't see anything obvious. It comes from a known die pair. A quick search turned up several examples from the same die pair. The obverse die is supposedly the same as Alföldi, Caesar, pl. XXIX, 68. https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=3511918 https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=4096263 https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1554753 Unless there are other factors that are evident fro the coin in hand.
Just a guess, but a coin I purchased at one auction was pulled/withdrawn from a previous one ....and the reasons stated was that the bids were not meeting the 'reserve'....apparently highly under.
Thanks. Yes, I had seen them before I bid. I was the first bidder and then sat back. I was a bit concerned about the surfaces and somethng about it made me hold back. Couldn't put a finger on it. Then the price ran up and suddenly today it disappeared. btw the title shoud read Imperatorial, not Imperial
Well, this was well above estimate already, but I guess it is possibe that the seller found a buyer this week, and decided they could both save on fees by transacting privately.
