Hi! I found this unique ancient coin in a lot of roman coins at a relic shop. I am wondering how old the coin is and where it came from. It looked different than the rest. I believe it is a seleucid coin. IMG_3207.JPG IMG_1855.JPG IMG_9426.JPG

Why do you believe it's unique?

I found it in a group of late Empire bronze Roman coins and it stood out

There is just enough inscription to be able to identify it. I believe it to be similar to my Demetrios.

    Demetrios II, Second REIGN
    Mint: Antioch

Obvs: Laureate head of Zeus right.
Revs: BAΣΙΛEΩΣ ΔHMHTPIOY ΘEOY NIKATOPEΣ, Nike holding wreath in right hand and palm branch with left. Ξ inner left. Club outer left.
    AE 18mm, 7.3g
    cf. SNG Isr.288.2176, cf. SC Vol.2 2170.2
Note: This coin is on a very thick flan that weighs heavier than average. Control only noted for outer left (Unpublished).

These should be in the 16 to 20 mm range and around 5 grams.

Your coin looks Greek to me. Like the coin above, it looks like one of the successors to Alexander the Great, 3rd-2nd century B.C..

I measured it. It’s somewhere between 15 and 20 mm but i can’t measure the weight for it. I think that’s the right coin. Thank you!
