Thracian dolphins

    Istros was in the Roman province of Moesia but before the Romans took it over it was inhabited by Thracians. Wildwinds lists Istros under Moesia, but CoinProject.com lists Istros under Thrace for the Greek period and Moesia for the provincial period.

    I was going to show my Istros stater but you have beaten me to it. Here is a Thracian tetrobol featuring a cow astride a dolphin.

    Thrace, Byzantion, 357-340 BC, 2.5g tetrobol (or hemidrachm, or fifth siglos, or half siglos) 12mm
    Obv: ΒΥ; Cow standing left on dolphin left
    Rev: mill-sail incuse
