How does your family feel about your coin-collecting? Just wondering how your families feel about your addiction........., er ah, I mean hobby.
My wife says money is for spending, not collecting. My kids (both teenage girls) feel about the same as my wife. It irks her even more when I buy books on coins. I get almost as much enjoyment tormenting my family with my hobby as I do from the hobby itself Guy~
my wife has no interest, and cant belive i willspend what i do on some items. She shakes her head at times, but largely leave me alone
My family sometimes jokes about it, but they generally don't give a hoot about my collecting addiction. My mum collects various antiques, so she has some sympathy for me, and will take an interest in it if I chat with her about it. My wife, on the other hand, tends to leave me alone, although she makes fun of me often enough. When I start talking to her about coins, that's when she tends to get a little irritated, as she has NO interest in my coins, even ones I buy that have some relevance to her (like Czech coins, as she is Czech). As long as no one really limits my spending, though, I'm happy!
My partner in live the beloved Mrs Orc collects Russian coins and my Dad would love to play with my collection LOL he started me on this path many years ago OK she has left the room now LOL
My wife makes fun of me, but she does feed my addiction by giving me her change every night so I can sort it. At first she enjoyed going through rolls with me, but last week, around the $75 dollar mark of pennies, she pretty much had enough, but I think it might be temporary. She does enjoy going through Kennedy rolls looking for silver.
Same here, but my wife's father is interested in coins and that gives me something in common with him to talk about instead of arguing politics about which we pretty much disagree on everything. She used to think of him as impossible to buy a gift for; now she just asks me what to get him and it's generally very easy.
I don't have a wife so I guess this question doesn't do me any good! That being said---some of my family collects so they don't pick on me but some of my friends think I'm nuts! Speedy
my nephew and i are doing the state quarters,he will be 7 in january.i have 3 nieces that i have given each 2006 nickel sets and i gave them each 2005 beginer set.
It's hard to pick just one. Some think it's cool, some think I'm nuts, some don't care, and my wife swings between... you didn't buy another coin did you to.... you bought another coin. She can't understand paying good money for coins, but she does keep her eyes open for silver and star notes. She can relate to bills more than coins.
Hey I'm 45 years old so they should be over it after nearly 40 years! I don't really talk about it as they wouldn't understand anyway but they DO know who to come to with a question should they have one. My wife is GREAT about it! If I decide to drop $500 on a coin she knows I've done my homework and eventually it will go back in our pockets. My collection is not going to the grave with me (I hope) and since no one else collects in the family I'd rather put them in the hands of people that appreciate them when I get older.
My wife has the bug...sorta.... I think the new metal detectors will help her along as she finds coins herself, but now she is a good sport and helps me sort rolls of Lincolns.
My wife acts like she's interested when I talk about my collection but I really dont think she's listening. Although she does support my addiction and lets me buy whatever coins I want, well, within reason. She does collect some fractional notes when she goes to shows with me. My daughter collects Ike dollars but is more interested in boys at the moment, being a 15 year old. None of my other family members collect nor do they care about my collection, until I die anyhow.
I will be the first to admit that I spend way too much time on my gold and paper collections. My wife has little interest and hates history with a passion..she say's it was my worst subject in school..LOL My son is still a little young to grasp it all just yet, but he likes looking at all the coins and notes an reminds me that they are his after I bite the big one..LOL Since I have moved into paper just over a year ago now, I am finding myseldf reading and studying the people in the Presidents Cabinet and their roles in the US Treasury, the financing of the early wars and the building of America! The contractors who were hired to print certain Series of notes and how the BEP was formed back in the late 17th Century. There is more than I will ever know, however, it is interesting and rewarding to find and collect specific high grade notes! I just need to hit the lottery..LOL RickieB
my girlfriend helps me sort out copper cents occasionaly. i also circled lots of stuff in the mint catalog for her to get for my christmas. she good about coins now my ex thats a different story
