I'm a fan of the Indian cent in this particular pairing. The half has nice eye appeal for a 61, though.
I understand the significance of the L on the Indian and think that’s a special coin for sure. But the seated half takes the cake in every category for me. I prefer those old white ANACS holders over most other holders, I prefer larger sized coins over smaller, prefer silver over copper, it has nice toning and I love the seated design. So for me it’s all personal aesthetic appeal and really has nothing to do with scarcity or “numismatic importance.”
I voted purely on aesthetic value and not the costs associated. I find the 1864 much more attractive.
If you are asking purely for "Which coin has the most profit potential based on the price you paid?", then the clear answer is the Indian. The half is attractive, but I'm not convinced it is accurately graded. I think you paid a 58 price for an attractive 58 coin. The Indian, however, has a bit of potential upside. There is a Snow-10, PCGS MS-64 RB, that sold a few years ago on Heritage for $1234
I'm a very small time coin collector, on a sometimes nonexistent budget, and, since I do have a small "type" collection, I really appreciate the seated half. But, since I actually have an Indian Head collection (don't ask each coin's condition), I have to go with the Indian. Both are great coins! BTW, I'm not complaining, I'm very blessed, and get great satisfaction out of the coins I do have. Also, I look forward to seeing the coins some of you are able to buy and keep them for future generations to enjoy!
Been flip-flopping like an amoral politician (not all politicians, mind you) as you folks have been chiming in. But, considering all things, would take the half: my paternal grandfather's birth year and a great color, as long as I don't have to buy it from @C-B-D. Steve
