Okay, now EVERYBODY'S starting to fail to "get it". The whole riff is about excessive deference to newbs, in case you missed the meme. Kind of a "the newb can do no wrong" thing.

If at the end of the day (cliché alert!) we're trying to create a market for something, that's quite understandable. Not transparent ..., but quite understandable.

I've bought a couple of coins from them in the last few months and have no regrets; the coins were nice.

But you ARE very selective, right?

Yes I am and won't bid more than I determined at the start of bidding. The bidding on some coins just boggle my mind, but considering the state of my mind these days it isn't a shock.

Amen, brother! He is doing SOMETHING right. I'm tempted to put in my "In Case of my Death" letter, instructions to have everything sold by GSC.

I wanted to add, the worse type that goes overboard, IMO, are early date indian cents. In my experience, the coins in hand look worse than the photos.

I'd take the gold sticker every day, because they are more unique and rarer, especially in the coins I collect (gold coins).

"Wings" is pretty much a CAC for international coins, right?

They would like to be and it's what they're trying to do but the market doesn't put them anywhere close to the same level

Go for the gold. It means it is undergraded, and not just by one grade. And, they don't hand them out as much as they did in the past, so there is some collector demand for that too.

Lol agreed. I know the customer well though so I have first refusal if he gets tired of it

Here's how your coin would be (speaking ironically) "cataloged" at one of my CoinTalk-discussed central Pennsylvania back-country coin auctions. No flowery color descriptions, no pictures, no grades, just this:

    1869 10C Prf. (dark)

That is the world in which I operate. It's like they're paying by the letter for a text message to Neptune or something.

That’s the way in a back country Maine auction too. How I like to buy

100% accurate description I like it better than some fluffy syrupy description.
It’s toned with darker colors so it is dark that can’t be denied.
    Oh almost forgot, nice coin!

Yeah, all true, but when my son and I get bored from a long drive in the car, like on the way to FUN last year, we try to top each other with flowery bullsnot language describing coins like in major auction house catalogs. We keep a notebook of ostentatious color names we find in catalogs.
