I'm guessing that's a 1976 $2 bill (as later dates only issued certain Fed Reserve Branches and the Legal Tenders had the stars at the beginning of the serial)?

cool, thanks for posting pics. I know alot of folks here would suggest spending them as they might not be very rare, but they would go in with all my other notes! Star notes never escape me, im like a black hole for Stars :)

nice star, but that OS $5 bill isn't worth keeping IMHO.

I keep seeing reference to "legal tender" $2 bills, as if there are some that aren't legal tender.

I didn't know that any BEP issued notes had been demonetized, and if that's not what the references infer, what's it all about?

(My US currency collection consists of whatever is in my wallet at any given time.)

    Hontonai,

All of the stuff in your wallet is good as long as it's not counterfeit.

Without getting too far into it "legal tenders" UNITED STATES NOTES were first authorized by Congress on May 3, 1878. In small size notes they have been issued in 1, 2, 5 and 100 denominations.

The last issuing of these was the 1966 series $100 notes.

I'm paraphrasing Schwartz and Lindquist here if anyone really cares.

You've been around for a while hontonai (I picked up on this). Just think back to your younger days when you would get a bill with a red seal and serial numbers. THOSE are Legal Tenders - it actually says so on the note.

    Hope that helps.

Nice $2 star note. I'd keep it. That $5 has seen better days but I'd probably hold onto it for a little while. I dont' see too many that old from circulation around here.
