Hello, my numismatic friends! Hope you're all staying warm on the East coast.

Is there any resource that can tell me the value of 1943 steel lincoln cent plain blanks and planchets (unslabbed)?

Is one more desirable than the other, blank or planchet?

IIRC blanks are slabbed as Type I and planchets as Type II

If you look at the PCGS or NGC price guide, that may help you with you value questions and to differentiate between the two.

The Type I are more placid and serene, and the Type II look upset, right?

I think it is all preference. I like planchets because they look more like coins than blanks.

From the "the more you know, the more freaked out you become" school of thought, eh?

Question: How do you know it's not the MUCH more rare 1944 unstruck zinc-plated steel planchet? :bag:

Or, or, or, wait... the equally evasive 1944 Belgian 2 Franc unstruck planchet?

    {I just put looking for a REALLY nice 1944 Belgian 2 Franc on my NYINC box or book stock shopping list.}

    Gee, I guess I don't. That's why I need pcgs to authenticate.

Anywhere I can check, a guide, anything, so I know what is a ballpark fair price? Is $80 for a blank or planchet way too much?

If someone can send me a link to an online price guide for blanks and planchets I would appreciate it. I can't find a price guide for them on the pcgs site

This much I do know - the zinc plated steel is a special case, and a highly desirable one.

I did, but no one posted what resource there is to see and check current values. I guess I am asking is there any kind of "grey sheet". I see you paid $60, but I don't know if you got it for a steal (no pun intended) in today's dollars or if that was way too much.

In my honest opinion you would be much better off purchasing an Attributed 1943 Steel blank than a raw example. There is no way of authenticating a raw example. Many that were attributed and slabbed were most likely from a known collector or straight from a mint sewn bag.
I wouldn't trust anyone claiming they have raw steel blanks. They want to steal our money :woot:

    What exactly is attributed? Slabbed?

Type 1's go for more than Type 2's as I said in the other thread.
The steelie blanks/ planchets are a special case.
