I do understand what your saying. The engraver will not alway's punch the MM in the same position. I also undersand that all die's are well known. Photo's would be the tell tell sign, Photoshop with a overlay of all 1914 D coin's would decide the correct positioning, don't you think? Rhubarb
But each die has its own mm. Therefore, there are only as many MM's as there are dies. The only differences within each die would be from wear, chips, etc.
Yes, that would the area. The information comes from "The Official Guide to Coin Grading and Counterfeit Detection". Lou
rlm's, Exactly. I'm not stating that other examples are out there. To verify which one you have "Pictue's are worth a 1000 word's" Your coin is your coin. We are talking about Die Positioning and the # of Dies used on this Date. Rhubarb
Yes. See the pictures on page 3 of this thread. Probably was an added "D". And it has been returned. Do not believe tht it has been received by the seller yet.
Great Cherry PICK!! You did very good this is the real deal. Also notice the base of the bust. There is no VDB initials which is good since they didn't show up on lincolns until 1919.
The VDB was restored in 1918, not 1919. As for the 1914-D, you need to read the rest of the thread. It appears to have an altered mint mark and it was horribly cleaned. It has been returned to the seller.
Here we go again. Does this look familiar; http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=290183945576&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=019
I guess that I did not do that badly - compared to this time. $736!!!!!!!!! I feel sorry for the buyer.
Amazing, the seller just ignored the fact that it is questionable and is willing to stick it to someone else ? Thats some scary stuff there !!!!:rolling:
Want your money back? lol! I would have jumped all over it for that price. I just compared it to a couple of mine and it looks authenic or I have some fakes to. I'm not sure about the cleaning and think you won't be able to tell until you actually have it in hand. But IMO, you done extremely well!
Rim's Cents posted a picture of the coin "in hand" at 1:56 pm on 11-08-2007, 2-1/2 months before your post, clearly and unmistakably showing the cleaning. Wouldn't it make sense to read an entire thread before responding to an early post?
