Any big jewelry store or bullion dealer got one. Takes just a minute. I took several to my local one and they xrf free of charge for me.
I agree with StateQuarterGuy, if we could just get a good, clear picture of the date, we could likely tell you more.
yeah... that's a much better picture. Unfortunately, I suspect that this is an altered date. The dealer should be able to help better as he will see the coin in hand. Look at the date on the genuine 44 steel cent that was posted earlier in this thread. Look particularly at the 4s in the date. The 2nd 4 on your coin doesn't look right to me, and I would bet on your coin having been altered.
That's better. Unfortunately I agree @mikenoodle and some of the earlier posters that it's an altered date. The second 4 does not look right. You should still show it to the dealer. And remember, just because he's a dealer doesn't mean he's an expert, but you should be able to get a read from him on whether he quickly dismisses you, or at least looks at the coin and date under a loop. Let us know what happens. 99%+ of posts on CT from new members claiming to have an extreme rarity are obvious fakes. If nothing else, you gave some of us an interesting diversion, and who knows, it's a slim chance, but see what an expert says with the coin in hand instead of us trying to authenticate it from pictures. Best of Luck
And whatever you do, don't take a picture with Kurt.........he's wanted by the authorities in three states.........
I’m thinking it’s an altered date. I’m actually flying back from Texas now. Though I’m not the expert to ask on a Lincoln cent. A trade dollar or early us type I’m pretty good though
But I only care about 3. Plasma will only interest me when they come out with the "real" light sabers.
So I was able to take it by a shop that sales and buys gold and rare coins, he used xrf and it came back as 95 and 5, he also looked at it under a 30x loop. He said he saw no evidence of tapering and said the 2nd 4 looking off could just be the way it was struck. He stopped short of saying it was real or fake. He did offer to buy it and said he would be the one taking a chance. I’m going next week to another shop for a 2nd opinion.
