Question about coins found in father's belongings

    In China, people actually use dies and presses to counterfeit US coins. The government there looks the other way. I am sure that there are other places as well. If a coin is struck on a press with a die, it will have the look of a genuine coin, and be difficult to tell without expert knowledge. They are not really common, but they do exist.

    This is the best use of a Third Party Grading Service, authentication. The grading is all subjective.

    The 4s (particularly the 2nd one) don't look like they're square to the rest of the date, which is a red flag, but best to have it examined in hand.

    the issue is more one of focus, than alignment

    and no, the scan is too small

    My guess is altered date based on the alignment of the 2nd 4
