I like the S mint mark on that 1/4 Gulden there.....it is all in the same neighbourhood, lot of islands around, here is one from British North Borneo.
Hmm, I'm kinda stuck...all I got left for this region is more another NEI (which the rules say we cannot backtrack), or Philippines.
Here is a cent from the Straits Settlements and a 1 keping from Malacca. I often look at a map online to see what might be the next country. I was thinking of China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong....Thailand would work too, from N. Borneo.
I was about to post my Borneo cent. You beat me to it. ... I'll save it for another day. Mine has a little more wear (the noses are flat).
With the assumtion that the Straits Settlements coinage was in use for all of the Malay States at one time, you can go direct to what is now Vietnam...
(China) from Borneo Island, Malaysia 1901-H Hong Kong, cent 1995 Hong Kong, 10 dollars. Taken from circulation in Hong Kong A thick coin.
From China to Japan Japan 1952, 10 yen Yes, I know that Japan was not in the British Empire. My dad gave me this coin. My dad never bought coins. He collected from circulation mostly. He gave me his US circulated silver and bronze when I started collecting coins (1986). He also gave me some odds and ends world coins that he got from the Catholic Church donation basket. My dad was an usher (money collector) for his church during mass. He sorted the coin for the priest afterwards, and would keep the foreign (which was of no use to the church) and replace it with US coin. This coin came from the collection basket.
Russia. I assume they use this type coinage right across the border from PRK in the Eastern part of Siberia.
