Sorry for the glaring flip photos, but I'm still learning to use this darn camera and just have been practicing tonight. What TPG would or should I send it into for grading,Anacs,PCGS or ICG. I've been told it could be a blunt 7 over 6 version, would they verify this? [/IMG] [/IMG][/IMG]
Lemmyk, The coin is a "Large 7 over 6" Variety! Although it is not as rare as the "Small 7 over 6", " Blunt 1" Variety, it is still a very nice coin and one that fetches fairly nice prices in mid to higher grades! I would advise that you have a Coin Dealer check for an old cleaning as this will determine whether you can send it to PCGS, NGC, ICG or ANACS. If there is evidence of an old cleaning (which I believe there is), then you would want to send it to ANACS as they will certify and grade it as well as attribute the Variety (verify and notate it on the label). PCGS, NGC and ICG would just body bag the coin and send it back to you uncertified and ungraded if it has been cleaned! By the way, I beiieve that it may go VF-30 to VF-35! Frank
I think it is a very attractive coin, S-273 large 7/6 common but popular. The coin is porous though so PCGS, NGC, and ICG would bodybag it. ANACS would slab it but frankly I don't see any reason to do so.
See Conder's comments above, which I agree with 100%. Keep that puppy raw, and enjoy the beauty of this 200 year old coin...Mike
I agree with conder and leadfoot - keep this nice coin raw. It looks porous and maybe re-colored, but it is still a very nice coin, much nicer than my 1807/6.
What Frank said. Plus, next time, take the coin out of the holder pre-photographing it. That reflection hides most of the coin.
I should have taken it out of the flip for the photo, but I'm still practicing taking photos and noticed the glare after I posted. The coin really does look a lot better raw but it was given to me in a flip and has been in there at least 25+ years. I really wanted the slabbing for protection, that was the reason for my question. But, if it is common maybe I will just keep it safe, dry and raw! I'm glad to know now ANACS may be the one to go with if I ever do go for the slab thing. Thanks for the advice all...
Thanks, I most likely will, I just don't have the bucks to send coins right now anyway. Here are two better outside of the flip..... [/IMG] [/IMG]
I don't see any porosity? I do see a gouge on the reverse that was obscured by the glare, though. Heck, its better than any of my large cents! Keep it raw!
