Just picked this up as the last of 2017. Pretty nice “Accented Hair Kennedy.” Here is to a more fun 2018: (Yes, the “spots” are dust on the slab, not the coin.)
Lets bring in the New Year. 1888 O MS 65 Morgan This coin is booming with luster. Strong strike. There are a lot of VAM varieties for this date, I believe. Enjoy.
My Christmas gift to myself just came in the mail. An 1804 half eagle. It was my first coin purchase in over 3 years. It's my fourth draped bust half eagle, but my first problem free example.
A long time ago a realized that I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies if you know what I mean. I'd love to go out and buy a bunch of $10-20 coins every month which I'm sure I'll like. But I know I will be much happier if I save up and buy one coin that I'll really really love. This is my first coin purchase since September 2014. I passed on a lot of coins over the last three years, but it was worth it when I opened up my mail this morning. I'm sure anyone can own one of these if they save up for a while and don't buy everything insight like I used to. Below is an "affordable" one that I'm currently selling. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/1802-1-5-half-eagle.308419/
Very true, some great words of wisdom there. Not just in coins but life as well. I've done that on a smaller scale ($2-300). That is a gorgeous coin.
If anyone has the book with all the Baker numbers and could help me, I'm looking for information on this medal. Baker 922
Here's what the Rulau-Fuld 2nd ed. of Medallic Portraits of Washington says: "Baker 922. Date 1932, Bronze. Size 64mm. EF $45, Unc. $65. Civil bust of Washington facing, in high relief. Rv: within laurel wreath joined at bottom by cartouche lettered STATE / OF / RHODE ISLAND is: IN / COMMEMORATION / OF THE / GEORGE WASHINGTON / BICENTENNIAL / 1732-1932. Plain edge. Rarity 6. (Hansen 38; Collins 540). Baker 922 was struck by the Robbins Co., Attleboro, Mass., whose signature appears in tiny letters at bottom of reverse, and was authorized as an official issue of the Rhode Island state legislature." Hope this helps! Kind regards, George
1806 Half Cent graded VF 30 BN by NGC and marked as from Stack's W 57th St Collection - the reverse of the slab has some decent scratches on it, unfortunately, so the majority of the lines and scratches are actually on the slab. My favorite part of this type is the 1/200 on the reverse, which attempted to teach people decimalization after having dealt with the then rather unintuitive British coinage.
