After seeing everyone's great 2017 pics I thought I should do one of my own. It was tough to pick just 10 since I got some great coins this year. A few have issues but their rarity or style made them an easy choice. Added 2 Domitian "O" mint denarii this year, one from Ebay at a steal! Holy smokes. Amazing coins all. Tough for me to pick a favorite. That Owl is perfect. But I specially love the espressive portrait on that Domitian with the Minerva reverse. An extraordinary year.
There's nary a one that I wouldn't love in my collection @Jay GT4 , but my favorites are the Brutus AV stater and the Domitian with winged caduceus.
NICE @Jay GT4 ! Are you a Porshe guy? Anyway, back to coins... FANTASTIC line-up, and I do not think that I welcomed you to CT. I looked over your Forum database... nice! I really like a lot of your coins, especially those in my collecting focus! That Brutus Stater and the Sybaris are both fantastic coins for my tastes! All of your others are just fantastic additions for 2017! Well done! Since I like your Roman Republics, I will toss one on cuz you have a great collection! Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments very much! Great silver sestertius....I need one! Porsche...no...the other prancing horse Forza Ferrari!
That's a top notch top ten for sure All those flavians are fantastic, @David Atherton has to worry about you chasing in "his" field Anyway the one I prefer is the following : No need to wrapping it up it's not to take away.... Q
Fantastic Top Ten Jay! I have to agree with JW and Andrew, despite my Flavian bias, that Brutus stater is my favourite. Runners-up: the 'o' mint denarii and the D393. 2017 was an excellent year for you!
Thanks guys. I do love the Koson stater. It's probably the most affordable ancient gold coin that is tied to such an important event in history. Yes I found that buying at shows is really the only way to go. I'm fortunate that ANE is 10 minutes away from me and Sveto and I are good friends. Robert from Calgary Coin comes to Toronto 2-3 times a year and always has new coins. Buying at shows and in a shop allows you to see the coin in hand. Many times photos just don't do them justice. It also saves the shipping and builds great relationships with dealers. You also get to see inventory before it hits the web!
I also like buying from these two dealers. they are friendly, knowledgable, and fair. Plus, they often have very cool coins.
