s-l225.jpg Hey im interested to hear what is most you have paid for a coin and why you payed it.

The most i paid was £600 just this week for this gold and silver bermuda triangle set. Reason i paid it was i fell in love with coins as they are different not many people have it and its stunning

My avatar NGC PR-65 1852 half cent cost me the most cash, but I have a few other more valuable pieces that I received as part of my family’s collection and one as a gift from my boss.

Are you including bullion coins? The most I paid was for a one ounce AGE. Excluding that it was one of the early West German commemoratives, which generally catalog around $700 in the grade I bought. I'm not telling what I paid for it though. I have a couple worth more but I did not pay as much for them.

For me it's a 1 oz gold as well. Krugerrand. As far as numismatic coins go, I'm not wealthy, and I'm more of a quantity guy. I love the diversity of pieces from different countries, circulated coinage, and learning history from the time periods. So, for example, I'd rather have a hundred $10 coins than one $1000 coin. But that's just me.

1893-S Morgan - Cost was a little over $3k from a nearby auction house, that I bid on from home. Hadn't seen it in hand before bidding, but was able to get to the auction house before the auction ended. I paid for the coin, and then, with it in hand, realized it was a fake. Luckily, I was able to show the auctioneer why I felt it was fake, and he canceled the sale. Phew!

After that, most expensive is my 1928 Hawaiian commemorative. That one I actually bought, paid for, and proudly have it tucked away in the safe.

Several years back I kept my eye on a 1928 P Peace Dollar in a local coin shop. Actually a gun shop with a small rotating table of "pricey" coins. I watched that 28 P like a hawk for over a year just hoping nobody would buy it while i got the 375 dollars raised for it. I had decided it was ms60 in my mind as it was raw of course. I bought it, sent it to NGC and it came back AU details. I don't guess I'll ever get my money back on that one!!!! But it sure was an exciting endeavor (I thought) at the time!!
Thanks for reminding me of that story!!... I guess...;)

$750 on Belgium 10 centimes copper coin. graded by NGC MS65 RB. a grade rarity. never regretted either. it is the king of my collection. It was a once in a lifetime kind of buy. Usually I only spend between $15-400 on a coin. I have been collecting 19 years now. welcome to CT.:cat::cat::cat:
