Those are big news. I had no idea about that. Thank you for sharing that information.

Let's hope they will be easy to get and we do not have to spend too much money as it happend with Slovenia ToR. But I'm afraid we will have some expenses with x5 German mints + Slovenia + Cyprus + Malta + the other.

Well, I had no idea either - until last night. ;)

If the 13 countries from this year's issue (ToR) plus Cyprus and Malta participate, that would still be doable without having to spend a little fortune. (In my opinion; I do not collect the German pieces by mintmark, so this would mean 1 from DE for me.) Depending on whether Slovakia actually joins Euroland on 1-Jan-2009 or not, we would thus have 15 or 16 pieces.
(Or more, depending on the future of Belgium ... )

Now the big question is, what about the three countries (MC, SM, VA) that also have the euro but are not EU members? With the Treaty of Rome coins, it made sense to not include them, but the 10th anniversary of the euro ... I dare not think of a low-mintage high-price Monaco piece for example.

The future of Belgium? I can't remember any news about that

I'm afraid I could not afford those news

With regard to the coins, it was admittedly a tongue-in-cheek side comment. But who knows. This has been talked about in Belgian media, and dealt with in opinion polls, for weeks ... no idea though where this will end.

As for the 2009 coins plan and the three small non-EU countries, well, at the Council meeting it was representatives of the member states that basically agreed on this common €2 piece. How to proceed will have to be figured out later. Now had one of these member states said, No, our country will not participate, the issue would have been "dead". Maybe the three will be invited to join the program, maybe they will participate, maybe not. Plenty of time to consider between now and then. :)
